Anolis Makes the Brolgas Dance at Cockle Bay

Thirty Anolis ArcSource 6 fixtures have been installed to illuminate the main Dancing Brolga Fountain at the lively Cockle Bay Wharf dining and entertainment destination in Darling Harbour, Sydney, Australia.

The installation was completed by Sydney based water feature specialists, Waterforms International, and the Anolis supplied to them by Australian distributors, ULA.

Waterforms' Dirk Slotboom was approached by Darling Park Management with the brief that they wanted the fountain to become a visual centrepiece after dark to  enhanced the already great vibes and energy at Cockle Bay Wharf with the sound of water, and the look and feel of ambient colour changing lighting.

It was also time to update the original fibre optic lighting system that was installed to illuminate the fountain, designed by Terrance Plowright in 1998, with more contemporary and modern technology. This is why Anolis LEDs were specified by Waterforms who have used the brand to light many previous projects, so they knew that the brightness, build-quality and reliability of the units was assured.

The 30 x ArcSource 6 - 25 degrees units are arranged in a special pattern around the fountain with 2 water jets around each unit.

The Anolis installation lighting is controlled by an E:Cue Butler system, and can be selected to chase through different colours or to be set to one of a myriad of static colour options.

The new fixtures enable Cockle Bay's management to colour theme the fountain for traditional and special events throughout the retail calendar. They can also now accurately replicate the colours of a fire, so the 12 sculptured metal Brolga birds circling the fountain almost look like they're dancing around a campfire!

The new Dancing Brolga Fountain lighting scheme has become one of the story-telling elements as featured in the civic architecture in Darling Park and Cockle Bay Wharf.

The word Brolga has a rich Aboriginal heritage and lots of meaning, and the Aboriginal 'dreamtime' story about the origins of the elegant crane is one of the finest passed on between generations. Brolgas are a common wetland species in tropical and eastern Australia.
